Croatian captain Luka Modric signed a one-year contract with AC Milan on Monday, the Italian Serie A club said. Only last week, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said that the 39-year-old Ballon d'Or winner of 2018 will come to the San Siro from Real Madrid.

He will turn 40 in September. In 2012, he moved to Real from Tottenham. He has been linked with a move to Italy after announcing he will leave Spain when his contract with Real expires this season. He has reached Milan.

The 19-time Serie A winners said, "We are delighted to announce that Modric has signed a contract with the club until June 30, 2026. According to this agreement, the contract can be extended by one year. Modric himself has also expressed his happiness to be associated with Milan.

He said, "I'm starting a new chapter of my playing life in Milan and I'm happy about it." Milan won the league title in 2011 under the leadership of Allegri. He was at Milan from 2010 to 2014.
