Phapla project moving into a new phase

The process of construction of Phapla International Cricket Stadium has progressed further. The construction process went ahead after the Ministry of Forests and Environment approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report submitted by the Fapla International Cricket Ground and Sports Village Infrastructure Construction Committee.

Fapla International Cricket Stadium and Sports Village Infrastructure Development Committee Chairman Subas Shahi said that with the EIA approval, all the necessary legal procedures for the project have been completed. He said that since all the technical works including the detailed project report (DPR) have already been completed, the Phapla project has now entered a clear roadmap to move forward towards construction.

Fapla Khelgram, which is a priority of the government, has been started with the goal of building infrastructure to be able to host international level cricket tournaments and the construction of the project will be carried out through an international tender process, according to Shahi. It is planned to build a cricket stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators in accordance with international standards in a phased manner under the

Khelgram, and infrastructure such as football ground, swimming pool, track and field, multisports hall, sports museum etc. will also be included.

Dhangadhi has been promoted as the 'City of Cricket'. After the EIA was passed, Foreign Minister Arju Rana wrote on social media, "The news that the EIA process of Fapla International Cricket Stadium and Sports Village in Dhangadhi has been completed and all the legal approvals have been received has made me enthusiastic. All technical preparations related to this project including DPR have already been completed. We are confident that soon the dream stadium of far westerners, to watch international level cricket sitting in their own backyard will become a reality.'

The estimated cost of the project is around 26 billion rupees and it is targeted to be completed within 5 years. It is believed that the successful implementation of Fapla Stadium and Khelgram will make a significant contribution to the economy of the country as a whole, along with the development of sports and tourism in the Far West Province.
