Nepal became the runner-up in the 9th South Asian Karate Championship. Yuvraj Lama, president of the Nepal Karate Federation, informed that Nepal was the team runner-up with 21 gold, nine silver and 20 bronze medals.
Erika Gurung, who was nicknamed the Himalayan Warriors by the Karate Federation for women's 68 kg, Pushpaka Lama in 50 kg, Savina Shrestha in under 55 kg won double gold for Nepal in individual and team kumute.
Pradeep Baijali Magar won one gold each in U-21 and senior individual kumute and silver in team kumute. In the seventh edition held in Nepal and the eighth edition held in Bhutan, Nepal team became the champion. India became the team champion in the competition held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. India won 23 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze.
Third place Sri Lanka won 16 golds, 20 silvers and 23 bronzes, while Bangladesh won 3 golds, 7 silvers and 14 bronzes. In the six-nation competition, Pakistan was fifth with one silver, seven bronze and Bhutan was sixth with one silver and one bronze.
