He could not afford to buy bats and balls. However, he had the skills, passion and ability to play cricket. He is very crazy in cricket. He even forgot to eat. More attention was paid to bat and ball than textbooks. In Bawua, he supported his family by doing general farming and daily wage labor in the morning and evening.
The son's interest was expensive. 15-year-old Raunak Srivastava, who has been playing cricket amid poverty and pain, is in the limelight for making an unforgettable record in Nepali cricket history.
Raunak of Krishnanagar Municipality-1, Madha was 15 years and 8 months old. He has been playing cricket since the age of 5 and scored a double century for Lumbini Province in the TB Shah Memorial U-16 National Cricket Tournament held in Surkhet in the third week of June.
Raunak scored 217 runs for Lumbini after winning the toss and batting against Gandaki Pradesh at Birendranagar cricket ground. Prakash Gair, President of Kapilvastu Cricket Association said that he has created a rare record by hitting 16 fours and 16 sixes in 117 balls.
Laxman Kumal added 60 runs and Lumbini was bowled out for 433 runs in 47 overs. "This is the highest score made in any domestic cricket match of Nepal," said President Gayre, "It is also a record for the first time a double century was made in domestic cricket."
Raunak, who made a proud record for domestic cricket in the first match of the tournament involving U-16 teams from seven provinces, won two titles. He won 15,000 as the West Batter and Player of the Series.
He scored a total of 335 runs in 5 matches and also took 2 wickets. First double century and most individual runs in domestic cricket. Lumbini won the game by 332 runs against Gandaki in a brilliant match. It is also the widest win in domestic cricket. Gandaki, who got the huge target of 404 runs given by Lumbini, was bowled out for 71 runs in 28.2 overs.
As a child, Raunak used to make wooden bats and cloth balls at home as he could not buy a new ball bat. If you had to play with a cricket bat and ball, you had to reach your friends. They had to be fooled. After losing, Anand would be happy to play, he wished that he could play tomorrow too. I worked hard and struggled. Don't miss it. Even the parents always encouraged me to eat and drink. I am getting the result now,' said Raunak.
He has been selected for the U-16 ACC cricket tournament to be held in Malaysia next week due to his performance in Surkhet. Now he has reached Kathmandu to go to Malelia. He said, "I want to give a message that I can do something for the country by improving it."
All-rounder Raunak made his debut from Lumbini Pradesh in the strong Nepal Cup U-15 cricket tournament held in 2022. He also played in the U-16 Manmohan Cup National Cricket Tournament held in Pokhara in 2024. He performed well against Kapilvastu and Palpa in the selection of state level cricket players held recently in Bhairahawa. After batting well in the U-16 player selection tournament, he was selected for the TB Shah Memorial Cup.
Raunak has been training at the Gautam Buddha Cricket Academy in Naugarh, Siddharthnagar, bordering India since the age of 10. There he practiced daily. He says that his performance sharpened when he played under the guidance of coach Bipin Tripathi. He dropped out of class 8 at Budhapadma Mavi, headquarters, Taulihwa, and turned to bat and ball.
Krishnanagar Municipal Mayor Rajat Pratap Shah said that he was very happy with his achievements in cricket in a short time. "The happiness of my brother in the municipality has raised the head of the entire municipality," he said. Mayor Shah said that he would personally give 21,000 for Raunak's encouragement.
'I used to be very sad and worried when my son didn't study, but now I am happy with the respect that my son has received by playing cricket,' said Raunak's father Ashok.
