The first edition of SAFF Women's Club Championship Football is going to be held in Nepal. The final decision about the competition is yet to be made. But this tournament will probably take place in November. "We will decide on the format of the competition later, but the competition has been decided," said Purushottam Kattel, Secretary General of the South Asian Football Federation, on Saturday.
On the occasion of the Congress of the Federation held in Kathmandu, some ambitious plans have been put forward. The federation has proposed at least 11 tournaments to raise the standard of South Asian football. It has plans for men's and women's futsal to school competitions. Seven South Asian countries participated in the congress.
General Secretary Kattel said that since there is a lack of pro-licensed trainers in the South Asian region, he will bring forward a special program for building such manpower. According to him, apart from India and Bhutan, other countries do not have pro-licensed trainers and the production of such trainers is also very expensive.
We will continue discussions with the Asian Football Federation along with the respective countries' football associations for the production of pro-licensed coaches. Such a program is also necessary because pro-licensing costs a lot. Such a program will definitely help Nepali football,' he said.
was the first time journalists were allowed into the congress. This will be a new start as no futsal tournament has been held at the South Asian level. He said that the upcoming SAFF Championship will be held on the basis of 'home or away' and also said that if there is a problem with the project site, a neutral ground will be chosen.
