Due to lack of budget, the construction of the cricket ground is stalled

As the government did not allocate sufficient budget for the construction of the cricket stadium, the construction of the cricket ground in Mahendranagar has been stalled. In the year 2074, the construction was started by preparing a 'DPR' for the construction of an international level cricket stadium at Karwadhal in Mahendranagar.

In the financial year 2076/77, the National Sports Council allocated one million five million and started the construction of the cricket ground by inviting contracts through the Sudurpaschim Regional Sports Development Committee Dhangadhi, but the construction could not proceed due to lack of budget.

Due to the fact that many structures were built beyond the master plan in Covered Hall, more than 1 crore allocated for the construction of the cricket ground was spent on soil filling, and other works could not proceed. When the District Sports Development Committee gave a land contract for the construction of a fish pond at the construction site of the cricket ground, now it seems that the money received from cricket has also been spent on rebuilding the pond.

President of District Cricket Association Kanchanpur Birendra Bahadur Chand complained that he had to face a lot of problems in organizing the tournament due to lack of playground. "If we have to conduct any competition, we don't have a playground," he said.

He said that the budget for the cricket stadium could not be allocated because it was not a priority of the government. "Although the DPR has been prepared for the international stadium in Barwadhal, the work of the stadium has not been started for eight years," Chand said. According to him, even though a budget of 1.5 million has been received from the National Sports Council, the money has ended up in soil filling. For the construction of the cricket stadium, four and a half acres of land has been allocated in Karwadhal area.

The stakeholders here are complaining that the players who have succeeded in making the country known at the international level through various sports are not getting even the minimum infrastructure facilities. Kailash Giri, Vice President of the District Sports Development Committee, said that although it is a fertile land for cricket, a cricket stadium has not been built here to conduct the tournament.

'Cricket playground has not been built yet due to not being a priority of the state,' he said. He said that the government should give priority to the construction of sports infrastructure.

If we look at the history of cricket, Kanchanpur district is the hub of production of famous cricket players from the past till now. Even now, only four cricket players from Kanchanpur are in the national cricket team of Nepal.

From Dipendrasingh Airi who made the world famous, the well-known names of Nepali cricket, Vinod Bhandari, Pradeep Airi, Bhim Sarki, home district of Kanchanpur, even though the cricket craze is at the rural level, but the issue of building a playground here has not been given priority. From the national team of women's cricket to the national team of every group, Kanchanpur players have a majority.

In the last generation, talented players have been seen, but the players are fleeing due to lack of sports infrastructure and adequate services. Locals say that after the district sports development committee used the land of Karbadhal in Mahendranagar against the master plan in the name of agricultural purposes, the sportsmen were not able to use the playground of Karbadhal.
