Former champions Lalitpur City FC have won the third edition of the Nepal Super League (NSL) football tournament. Lalitpur won the title by defeating Pokhara Thunders by 2-1 in the final match held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar. Lalitpur received Rs 80 lakh along with the title and Pokhara got Rs 30 lakh.
Imoh Izakiel and Papa Ibau Kebe scored to give victory to Lalitpur. Lalitpur took the lead in the 42nd minute of the game. Imoh Izakiel scored for him. Lalitpur led 1-0 in the first half. In the 64th minute of the
game, Sudil Rai brought Pokhara back into the game. Lalitpur's goalkeeper Geoffrey Baltus saved the ball shot by Stephen Samir Binong through a header, but Sudeel converted the rebound into a goal.
Then, in the 74th minute of the game, Papa Ibau scored from inside the box after Imoh's cross on the ball that Pokhara's defender could not clear. Lalitpur remained undefeated in the tournament and remained at the top of the points table, defeating two-time runners-up Dhangadhi FC in the first qualifier.
Lalitpur drew 2-2 with Kathmandu at the beginning of the league stage. Then won 3-2 over Pokhara. A goalless draw with Dhangadhi, a 2-1 win over Chitwan, a 2-0 win against Butwal and a 1-1 draw with Jhapa remained undefeated in the tournament.
Similarly, with 3 wins and 3 draws and 12 points, Lalitpur was at the top of the points table and reached the first qualifier . Lalitpur defeated Dhangadhi 2-1 to reach the finals.
Pokhara started the league stage with a 2-0 loss against Chitwan. Then they lost 3-2 against Lalitpur. Coming back with a 2-0 win over Kathmandu, they won a 2-0 win over Butwal after a goalless draw with Dhangadhi and a 1-1 draw with Jhapa. With 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses, Pokhara gained 8 points and became the fourth team to reach the playoffs, behind Kathmandu on the basis of goal difference. Avenging the loss suffered in the league stage against Chitwan in Illuminator, they won 3-0.
In the second qualifier, Pokhara secured a place in the final by defeating Dhangadhi 1-0.
