It was Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) fifth match in Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket away from home and the team managed to get a 100 percent winning result in it. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 7 wickets at Mullanpur on Sunday.
At home, RCB has lost three matches in a row. The last time the team lost to Punjab by 5 wickets in a rain-affected match was just 48 hours ago in Bengaluru.
After Virat Kohli's unbeaten 73 runs in the 'reverse fixer', RCB climbed to the third position. Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, RCB, Punjab and Lucknow Super Giants have the same 10 points. The teams are ranked first through fifth, respectively, based on net run rate.
If Punjab had won this match, there would have been a chance to reach the top spot. But the team that came into bat after losing the toss was able to score only 157 runs after losing 7 wickets at home. Player of the match Kohli hit 7 fours and 1 six off 54 balls as RCB completed the target with 7 balls to spare. Kohli scored his 67th fifty in IPL history.
After Phil Salt was dismissed for 1 run, Kohli and Devdut Padikal shared 103 runs for the second wicket. Padikal, who came as an 'impact player', hit 5 fours and 4 sixes in 35 balls. Earlier, Priyansh Arya and Prabhasimran Singh got off to a good start by adding 42 runs in 4 overs, but Punjab could not take advantage of it. Debrehate spinner Krunal Pandya dismissed both and brought RCB back into the game. Arya scored 22 from 15 balls with 3 fours and 1 six and Prabhasimran scored 33 runs from 17 balls with 5 fours and 1 six.
Captain Shreyas Iyer was dismissed in 6 runs. It was unfortunate for Punjab that Nehal Badhera was run out for 6 runs. Josh English scored 29 runs off 17 balls with 2 fours and 1 six.
