Nepal has failed to reach the ICC U-19 World Cup next year. Nepal failed to qualify for the World Cup after Saturday's match between Nepal and Afghanistan in the ICC U-19 World Cup Asia qualifiers was canceled due to inclement weather.
Nepal had to win this match to reach the ICC U-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia next year. A draw would have been enough for Afghanistan. But there was rain in Mulpani from Friday evening. The Moolpani cricket ground was completely soaked by Saturday morning's rain and the game was delayed.
Even though the field inside the 30 yard circle was dry, the field adjacent to the boundary line was wet, so the match referee and umpires canceled the match saying that it was not possible to play at least 20-20 overs .
Nepal and Afghanistan won the first 3 matches and reached the decisive stage. Afghanistan's net run rate was 4.81 and Nepal's 3.57. This tournament involving Nepal, Oman, UAE, Afghanistan and Hong Kong is being held on a round robin basis and the winning team was supposed to reach the ICC U-19 World Cup.
Nepal defeated Afghanistan by 1 wicket in the ICC U-19 World Cup held in South Africa last year. After that, Nepal won over Afghanistan in the Asia Cup in UAE in November. Before this tournament, Nepal and Afghanistan U-19 played a three-match series, in which Afghanistan won 2-1.
Nepal has already played ICC U-19 World Cup 8 times.
