Digwesh Rathi bowled brilliantly as Lucknow Supergiants defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket on Friday. It was five-time champions Mumbai's third defeat in four matches. Lucknow got their second win in 4 matches and moved up to the sixth position.
After the leg break bowler Rathi took 1 wicket after spending only 21 runs in 4 overs, Mumbai could score only 191 runs after losing 5 wickets and getting the target of 204 runs. Needing 22 runs for victory in the last over, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandye and Mitchell Santner could add only 9 runs in Avesh Khan's over.
Hardik remained unbeaten on 28 runs by hitting 2 fours and 1 six off 16 balls. Suryakumar Yadav scored 67 runs in 43 balls with 9 fours and 1 six, Naman Dhir scored 46 runs in 24 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes. When Tilak Barma managed to score only 25 runs in 23 balls, Mumbai retired him before 7 balls and sent Santner. Santner scored 2 runs in 2 balls and remained unbeaten.
Earlier, despite Hardik taking 5 wickets, Lucknow who came into bat after losing the toss lost 8 wickets and scored 203 runs. Opener Mitchell Marsh scored 60 with 9 fours and 2 sixes from 31 balls and Aiden Markram scored 53 runs from 38 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.
Nicholas Pooran 12, Rishabh Pant 2, Ayush Badoni 30 off 19 balls and David Miller got out with 27 runs off 14 balls. Hardik Pandye spent 36 runs in 4 overs and took 5 wickets.
