The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wrote a letter to Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary on Thursday, asking the government not to interfere with the NOC. The IOC has also informed the minister that Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) is moving towards resolving the dispute.
The IOC stressed in the letter that they are continuously studying the NOC statute and election disputes. The solution will come soon.
Earlier, Minister Choudhary had said that he was corresponding with the IOC regarding the amendment of the NOC constitution and the post-election situation. IOC has written a letter in response to that. The letter to the Minister was signed by James McLeod, Director of IOC Relations, Olympic Solidarity and Olympism.
The letter says, "You are aware that an agreement has been reached between the NOC and the five national associations in Kuwait at the initiative of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). Accordingly, NOC has given membership to five associations. According to the agreement, it is believed that the case filed by the five unions in the court has also been withdrawn.'
McLeod is expecting Minister Chaudhary's support in the NOC dispute and has requested to respect the autonomy of NOC and Sports Association and allow them to work without interference.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council have also not recognized the election of the NOC due to the court case. Jeevanram Shrestha was re-elected as the president in the online election due to government interference.
