Terming the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) as 'so-called', Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary said on Sunday that this organization is illegal and all its work will be illegal.
Holding a press conference at the ministry, he claimed that international participation can take place even without NOC and said, 'No one has contacted me to discuss the problem.' He refuted all the allegations leveled by NOC as baseless. He also said that the process of preventing NOC officials from going abroad will continue. He also said that there will be no obstacles for the players in international participation.
The last time NOC General Secretary Rajeev Shrestha was barred from going abroad by the Immigration Department, he went to the High Court. But the High Court decided not to issue an interim order. Minister Choudhary also said that NOC is an organization registered with the National Sports Council and since it is doing illegal work, its activities and decisions have no significance.
He also claimed that the election of NOC Chairman Shrestha for the third time is against the law of Nepal. He said, 'Why should he always be the president? The last election of NOC was held in August 2076. Elections were to be held after the end of that term. But it is against the law of NOC to extend the same term and hold elections in December 2081.' Minister Choudhary also warned the sports associations not to participate in the special general meeting held by the NOC. On the occasion of the press conference, Minister Chaudhary also reiterated his claim that the 10th National Games will be held on time.
