Karate player Erica Gurung has won a silver medal in the Karate Youth League K-1 in UAE. Asian Games silver medalist Erika competed in the women's 68 kg weight group.

In the match that took place on Friday morning, she lost to the Iranian player Hananeh Sahehila in the final.

Before that, she defeated India's Danishtha Pahuja, Kazakhstan's Venera and Turkey's Gusta Samaj to make it to the finals.

2,300 young players from 87 countries are participating in the competition which will last until February 23 at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah. Athletes in the age group of 12 to 20 years will compete in 46 categories.

1900 players from 76 countries participated in last year's competition, this year the number of countries and players has increased. Last year, Egypt won 16 golds while Iran won 6 golds.
