The title of the 15th President's Running Shield has been won by Maivakhola Rural Municipality. Maiwakhola won this year's title with 25 golds by taking advantage of home city and home ground. This year's competition was held at the playground of Sanghu, center of Maiwakhola Rural Municipality.
In the competition that started on Sunday, the former winner of Atharai Triveni Rural Municipality became the runner-up. He won 20 golds. The district's only municipality, Fungling, has dropped to third place with 17 golds.
Organizer Maiwakhola has won 17 golds in Usu, Martial Art and Karate alone, informed Chiranjeevi Chongwang of Statistics Branch of District Sports Development Committee Taplejung.
Meringden won two golds, Mikwakhola and Pathibhara Yangwarak won two golds each in the competition in which nine local levels participated. Paktanglung and Sirijanga Rural Municipality were without medals. According to Chongbang, they did not win gold, silver and bronze medals. Sidingwa Rural Municipality, which did not win gold, won silver and bronze medals. In the
volleyball tournament, Maiwakhola won the girls' title while Fungling Municipality became the runner-up. While Meringden won the student title, Fungling became the runner-up. The Kabaddi title was won by Fungling and Maiwakhola in the female category. Fungling beat Maiwakhola in Chatra and Maiwakhola took revenge on Fungling in Chatra.
Most of the players participating in the state-level competition have been selected, said Executive Officer of the District Sports Development Committee, Yajnidhi Paudel. Maivakhola rural municipality inaugurated with a special program including group dance of more than five hundred students and statue of Mundhumi Silamsakma.
District Sports Development Committee Chairman Ganesh Mawo informed that next year's competition will be held in Sidingwa Rural Municipality.
