24th Aha-Rara Pokhara Gold Cup: Church Boys beat NRT in Sudden Death to quarter-finals

After defeating Neurod Team (NRT) in sudden death, Church Boys United entered the quarter finals of the ongoing 24th Aha-Rara Pokhara Gold Cup in Pokhara. After the scheduled and extra time ended in a tie of 1-1 at Pokhara Stadium on Thursday, the match went to sudden death through a penalty shootout.

In the 25th minute of the game, Richard Wilson of NRT took the lead by scoring a goal. But in the 64th minute of the match, Church Boys scored an equalizing goal. Naveen Lama easily scored a penalty from the church boys without making any mistakes. After the scheduled 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw, it was pushed to extra 30 minutes. As neither side could score a goal at that time, it went to a penalty shootout. After the penalty shootout ended in a tie of 4-4, the game had to be resorted to sudden death.  Church Boys' Naveen Lama, Milan Rai, Akins Baffour and Abayomi Fakunle scored in the

penalty shootout. Sakal Regmi's shot also went over the crossbar. NRT captain Anjan Bisht, Jai Gurung, Sumit Shrestha and goalkeeper Vishal Sunar scored goals. Angel Maharjan's shot was out. 

Prashant Laksham of Church Boys scored the first goal in sudden death. NRT's Rajeev Lopchan, who came after that, returned the goal. Church Boys' Serge Dhika's penalty was saved by NRT goalkeeper Vishal Sunar. 

NRT's Janmjay Dhami's ball was saved by Tikendrasingh Thapa of Church Boys to make it 5-5. Church Boys' Raj Bhushal's ball was again saved by Vishal. NRT's Richard Wilson's shot was also saved by Tikendra and the score was again 5-5. Then Tikendra tried to take the penalty himself. Finally, his goal became decisive and the Church boys secured their place in the quarterfinals. He was declared man of the match in the match. 'A' Division League winners Church Boys will play the quarterfinal match against Tribhuvan Army Club on January 28.  In the

competition, India's Thunderbolt North United and Sankata Club will be played on Friday.
