Nepal lost a good chance to win the match against Thailand. Thailand defeated Nepal by 5 runs in the triangular Women's Twenty20 cricket series on Tuesday.
After winning the toss and batting first, Thailand lost 6 wickets and scored 106 runs in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Nepal lost 8 wickets and scored only 101 runs. This is Nepal's fourth consecutive defeat in the
competition. On the contrary, Thailand has won all four matches. It is almost certain that Thailand will win the title. After the participating teams have played each other 3-3 times, the team with the most points will be the winner. Thailand has 8 points, Netherlands has 4 points. Nepal has not been able to collect any points.
After a great performance in bowling, Nepal was at stake to defeat Thailand for the first time in 14 years. But while scoring 14 runs in the first 6 overs of the power play, Nepal had already lost Mamta Chaudhary (0), captain Indu Burma (3), Vindu Rawal (0), and Mejkan Khadka (5).
After Ruvina Chhetri and Pooja Mahato shared 44 runs for the fifth wicket, Nepal's hopes rose. But Ruveena and Pooja got out within 5 balls. Ruveena hit 3 fours and 1 six off 30 balls and scored 26 and Pooja scored 18 runs off 28 balls and hit 2 fours.
Thapa and Kavita Joshi shared 36 runs in the seventh wicket to give hope to Nepal again. Kavita scored 24 runs by hitting 3 fours and 1 six off 20 balls. Roma played 19 balls and hit 2 boundaries and remained unbeaten in 19 runs. Elisa Yadav was run out for zero. Rachna Chaudhary remained unbeaten in 2 runs.
After Manisha bowled sensationally in her first over, Nepal kept Thailand's batting under control. In the seventh over of the match, Manisha got out LBW for 17 runs off the opener Offisara Suwanchonrathi on her first ball. Three balls later, she also got Natakan Chantham LBW for a wicket.
In Manisha's last ball of the same over, Manisha ran out captain Naruimol Chaiwai for zero on a direct hit. Manisha did not stop there. Manisha, who made her 'debut' in the Women's Twenty20 International from this series, dismissed Thailand's leading batsman Nanapat Koncharoinkai for 19 runs. In the first two matches of this series, Koncharoinkai scored half centuries against Nepal and Netherlands and hit 2 fours in 23 balls.
After Manisha's excellent performance, Thailand reached 56-6 in 13 overs. But Thipatacha Puthavong and Chanida Suthirueng shared an unbeaten partnership of 50 runs in 43 balls for the seventh wicket. Puthavong played 31 balls and hit 1 four for 25 and Suthirueng played 28 balls for 1 four and scored 27 runs and remained unbeaten.
Nepal allowed the composition to 'debut'. Rachna, who made a good impression in the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup in Malaysia, was brought in as Kavita Kunwar's replacement. Rachna was included in the Nepali women's team after she left the competition with a back injury in the second match of the poetry series. Rachna took 1 wicket for 16 runs in 4 overs.
Similarly, Roma was played by Nepal in place of veteran Sita Ranamar. Sita took 5 wickets and scored 10 unbeaten runs in the last match against the Netherlands.
