In the opening match of the 24th Aha-Rara Pokhara Gold Cup, which started on Tuesday in Pokhara, the host Sahara Club departmental team was shocked 1-0 by Nepal Police. With the help of Ujwal Rai's goal, the 6-time title winner Police entered the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In the 36th minute of the match, Rai gave Police the lead by making use of the corner received by Police. His 'left foot' shot turned into a great goal. He was declared the player of the match. 

After being able to preserve the lead, the police set a trip to the quarterfinals. Sahara, which entered the field with three foreign players and a player from its own academy, has been eliminated from the tournament after losing the first match. Police will play the quarter final against Brigade Boys Club, UK on 26th January. Wednesday's match will be between departmental team APF and A division league team Machindra Football Club.  Dhanraj Acharya, head of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, inaugurated the

competition. Sahara Club Pokhara has awarded this year's best national football player award to Sanish Shrestha. The club honored him with Rs 50,555 at the opening ceremony. Khem Bahadur Gurung, an honorary member of the club, has been providing the money for the award.
