Manchester City will face 15-time champions Real Madrid in the play-offs of the European Champions League. According to the "draw" of the competition on Friday, Celtic will face Bayern Munich. The 2023 champions City will initially host Real at the Etihad.
City will travel to Spain next week for the second leg. In the other playoffs, Brest will face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Club Brugge will face Atalanta, Juventus will face PSG Eindhoven, Monaco will face Benfica, Sporting Lisbon will face Borussia Dortmund and Feyenoord will face AC Milan.
According to the new format of the competition, the top eight teams from the total of 36 participating teams will automatically enter the last 16. These eight teams are Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, Leverkusen, Lille and Aston Villa. The team in the last eight places in the points table has been eliminated from the competition.
The current draw has been made for the play-off between the 24 clubs ranked ninth to 24th in the points table. Lazio, Athletico Bilbao, Manchester United, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon, Olympiakos and Rangers were in the top eight positions in the Europa League, the second biggest competition of European club football.
