Nepal Premier League (NPL) first edition champions Janakpur Bolts. Janakpur won the title by defeating Sudurpaschim Royals by 5 wickets in the final held at the Trivi Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
Janakpur has won a prize of 10 million rupees along with a trophy. This is the largest prize money awarded in Nepali sports. Runner-up Sudurpaschim got 51 lakhs.
Karnali Yaks got 2.5 million rupees and Chitwan Rhinos got 1.5 million rupees for being the third in the eight franchise team participating competition. 32 matches were played in NPL which lasted for 22 days. Sudurpaschim captain Dipendra Singh Airi received the car as an award for being the 'Electrifying Player of the Tournament'. Lalit Rajwanshi of Janakpur Bolts, who took the most wickets in the entire tournament with 17 wickets, was declared the best bowler and won the motorcycle award. In the
final, Lahiru Milantha's 87 runs inspired Janakpur to defeat Sudurpaschim Royals. After winning the first 4 games, Janakpur's batting could not be opened. But in the final, Janakpur was able to reach the target by adding 71 runs in 6 overs of power play and 105 runs in the first 10 overs. Milantha added 77 runs in 7 overs with Asif Shaikh. After Milantha hit 9 fours and 4 sixes while playing 49 balls, Janakpur completed the target of 185 runs 4 balls before.
Sudoorpaschim defeated Janakpur twice in this NPL. Sudur Paschim won by 72 runs against Janakpur in the round robin league match. Despite stopping Sudur at 123-9, Janakpur, who came in reply, were bowled out for 51 runs in 12.1 overs.
This was the lowest score in the NPL. Sudurpaschim Janakpur was defeated by 8 wickets in Qualifier-1 and reached the final. Janakpur won the Qualifier-2 over Karnali Yaks by 2 wickets and confirmed the final meeting with Sudurpaschim.
Janakpur got this success without the captain Anil Saheb who has an injury in his hand. "No matter how many people I met yesterday, everyone said that you can't beat the Royals, but we all had confidence in the team that we can defeat the Royals," Janakpur coach Pubudu Dasanayake said. In the batting, we have performed as expected.'
In the final, Milantha, who completed his half-century in 31 balls, missed the chance of cut and bowled by the long-distance captain Dipendra Singh Airi when he was on a personal 65 runs. Milantha scored an unbeaten 75 off 53 balls against Biratnagar Kings in the first match of the NPL. Asif Shaikh, who did not have much success in the tournament, scored 33 runs with 4 fours and 2 sixes while playing 19 balls. Mohammad Mohsin got out for 9 runs off 8 balls. Jimmy Nisam was dismissed for 4 and Akash Tripathi for 2 runs.
Harsh Thakar scored 30 and Mayan Yadav remained unbeaten on 2 runs. Thacker hit 2 sixes off 24 balls. Dipendra took 1 wicket for 40 runs in 4 overs. Saif Zaib, Ishan Pandey and Scott Coughlan took 1 wicket each.
Sudurpaschim won the toss and scored 184 runs after losing 9 wickets. Zaib and Vinod Bhandari had a century partnership. By the time the first wicket was lost in the twelfth over, Sudurpaschim had scored 117 runs. But the team could add only 41 runs in the last 5 overs. Sudurpaschim scored 97 runs without loss in the first 10 overs.
Jaib completed his half-century in 33 balls. He got his life on 62 runs in the 12th over. Sher Malla was caught by Kishore Mahato when he hit long-on. In the same over, Kishore dismissed Jaib for 69 runs. Jaib hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in 43 balls. In the next over, Lalit Rajwanshi bowled another opener, Vinod Bhandari.
Vinod played 31 balls and scored 41 runs with 1 four and 3 sixes. Harmeet Singh hit 1 six off 8 balls and was dismissed for 14 runs. Jimmy bowled Scott McMullen for 14 runs. McMullen hit 1 six off 12 balls. Mohammad Mohsin dismissed Dipendra and Arif Shaikh in the same over. Dipendra who played 7 balls got 9 and Arif scored 1 run in 3 balls. Scott Kuglen was dismissed for 13 runs off 10 balls with 2 fours.
Kuglen and Naresh Budhaair (8) were dismissed by Kishore in the last over. Kishore and Mohsin took 3 wickets each. Kishore spent 25 runs in 3 overs and Mohsin 40 runs in 4 overs. Despite the batting dominance of the top row of the Far West over the other bowlers of Janakpur, Lalit took 1 wicket by keeping 1 maiden in 4 overs and costing only 15 runs. Nisam took 1 wicket after spending 44 runs in 4 overs.
