The draft of players for the first edition of Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL) has been completed on Sunday along with the announcement of team coach and marquee players. Six teams have selected 84 players from the draft.
6 teams from 6 cities will compete in the NKL organized by Astronics Management Pvt Ltd. Among them are Biratnagar Bandits, Janakpur Knights, Kathmandu Mavericks, Pokhara Lakers, Himalayan Raiders and Dhangadhi Wildcats.
Biratnagar has coached Lok Bahadur Bista, Janakpur Parvati Rai, Kathmandu Saroj Kumar Singh, Pokhara Vishnudatta Bhatt and Dhangadhi Mahesh Bohora. The Himalayan Raiders of Butwal have kept two coaches. Among them are Sandeep Pant and India's Pothuganti Satish Kumar.
In the 19th Asian Games, coach Parvati, who won the bronze medal for the Nepali women's team, has got the opportunity to become the first Nepali coach to manage the men's team. India's Satish Kumar is a former player of the Pro Kabaddi League. When the marquee players were announced after the
coach, Kalyan Bhujel in Biratnagar, Padam Bahadur Bista in Dhangadhi, Ganesh Parki in Himalayan, Ramu Tamata in Janakpur, Ghanshyam Roka Magar in Kathmandu and Pradeep Mizar in Pokhara. Ghanshyam is also the captain of the Nepali national team, who belongs to the Pro Kabaddi League of India.
After selecting the coach and marquee, the players were drafted into the NKL. There were a total of 117 players in the draft including 92 Nepali and 25 foreigners. The foreign players were from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Kenya.
