Saudi Arabia, the main destination of Nepali workers, has been given the responsibility of FIFA to host the World Cup Men's Football-2034 tournament to be held after 10 years.

In the vote held at the FIFA headquarters on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia alone was given the responsibility to play the World Cup. This World Cup is connected with the 2030 goal of establishing Saudi Arabia as a "global investment center" of Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who is also the successor of Saudi Arabia. Saudi has accepted this responsibility as a historic achievement.

Saudi has said that it will invest 10 billion dollars for this project . In the assessment published by FIFA two weeks ago, Saudi Arabia's proposal was rated 4.2 out of 5, the highest in history. It is what FIFA calls a unique, innovative and ambitious vision for the next century.

FIFA's announcement that Saudi Arabia is responsible for playing World Cup football in 2034 has not only caused a happy celebration among its citizens in Saudi Arabia . In this celebration, 13.4 million migrant workers who went to contribute to the development of Saudi Arabia have also joined . This number of immigrants is 42 percent of the total population of Saudi Arabia. In which 4 lakh Nepalis are working in Saudi.

Saudi Arabia plans to build 11 more grand stadiums for the upcoming World Cup, including upgrading three stadiums in its major cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khowar, Abha and Neom. Likewise, projects related to the construction of modern infrastructure including 1 lakh 85 hotel rooms, airports, roads, and railways have been advanced. Saudi Arabia has already advanced the construction of a comprehensive national project targeting the World Cup.

International human rights organizations have strongly criticized Saudi Arabia and FIFA for giving the World Cup to Saudi Arabia without meaningfully addressing the weak human rights and defense issues of migrant workers working in Saudi Arabia.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Equidem, Fair Square and other organizations have said that FIFA has ignored the seriousness of human rights. "Before deciding which country to host the World Cup, FIFA should have assessed the human rights situation in that country and the rights of the workers working in the World Cup project in a more detailed manner, and both the host country and FIFA should have ensured a complete arrangement for the protection of workers," said Equidem. Rameshwar Nepal, head of the research department, told Kantipur, "But for decades, extreme exploitation, forced labor and control over personal freedom have been imposed on migrant workers, including Nepalis. By deciding to host the World Cup in Saudi Arabia, where human rights are being violated, FIFA has clearly ignored its human rights standards. It seems that the workers working in the World Cup projects will be more at risk.'

In the last 10 years, only 1.3 million 52 thousand 800 people have worked in Saudi Arabia. In which there are 111,000 female workers . Saudi Arabia has been giving more opportunities in the field of foreign employment, which is on the rise after Covid. Last year alone, 148 thousand people including 800 women went.
