After excellent bowling by captain Karan KC and Dipesh Kandel, Kathmandu Gurkhaz defeated Lumbini Lions by 18 runs in a low-scoring match of Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Wednesday.

Gurkhaz, who chose to bat after winning the toss at the Trivi Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, was bowled out for 103 runs in 19.3 overs. After Karan took 4 wickets and Dipesh took 3 wickets, Lumbini responded and were bowled out for 85 runs in 19.2 overs . After the loss, Lumbini is officially out of the playoff race. Lumbini is the first team to exit the tournament. This is the team's fifth defeat in 6 games. Gurkhaz has maintained the possibility of reaching the playoffs by winning the second game in the fourth match.

Karan spent 16 runs in 4 overs and took 4 wickets. He dismissed Sandeep Zora and Ramon Simmonds (0) in the 19th over and in his second over. Zora scored the highest 26 runs from Lumbini. He played 29 balls and hit 2 fours . Unmukt Chand was dismissed for 14 runs while Surya Tamang remained unbeaten for 11 runs.

Ashutosh Ghirohia 4, Arjun Saud 3, Tom Moores 6, captain Rohit Paudel 8, San Bin Jafar zero, Vivek Yadav 2 and Abhishesh Gautam were dismissed for 2 runs. Apart from Karan, Dipesh took 3 wickets from Kathmandu spending 26 runs in 4 overs. Jehrard Ersmus spent 19 runs in 4 overs and took 2 wickets and Rashid Khan took 1 wicket .

Earlier, Bhim Sarki scored the highest 31 runs from Gurkhaz. He played 40 balls and hit 1 boundary. Dan Douthwaite scored 21 runs off 24 balls with 2 sixes. Pratik Shrestha scored 20 runs in 14 balls with 2 sixes.

Simmonds bowled Michael Levitt in the first over and started Gurkhaz's wicket-taking process. Stephan Eskinazi was out for zero, Erasmus 1, Sumit Maharjan 4, Rashid and Karan 1-1 and Sahav Alam 8 runs.

Jafar took 3 wickets from Lumbini. Former Canadian captain Jafar spent 21 runs in 4 overs in Sokram. Another Devrehate spinner Abhishesh took 2-2 wickets with 16 runs in 4 overs and Simond took 2-2 wickets in 3.2 overs with 21 runs.
