Preparations for the seventh edition of Women's SAFF Championship to be held in Nepal have been completed. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) organized a press conference on Tuesday and announced that the preparations for the seventh edition have been completed. Women's SAFF Championship to be held from October 1st to 14th.
Women's SAFF Championship is going to be held in Nepal for the third consecutive edition. Earlier, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India have organized it once. It was discussed that Pakistan will not participate in this seventh edition.
However, ANFA spokesperson Suresh Shah informed that no information has been received about it yet. Seven nations including Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan and Bangladesh will compete in the championship to be held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
A total of seven teams have been divided into two groups. Nepal is in Group 'B'. Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bhutan have four countries in this group. In the other group 'A', strong nations India, Pakistan and former champions Bangladesh are scheduled to compete. India and Pakistan will face each other on October 1st in the opening match of the
championship. The host Nepal is going to start the SAFF Championship at home by playing against Bhutan on Katik 2. Even though Nepal has reached the finals five times, it has not tasted the title.
Women's SAFF Championship's successful team is India. While India has lifted the title five times, Bangladesh has won only the last edition. Nepal is preparing for the championship to be held at the home ground under the training of Rajendra Tamang.
The first phase of the ANFA Women's League has just been completed. Based on the performance of the same league, ANFA announced a 40-member preliminary squad. Only 27 players were selected from that team on Tuesday.
ANFA tournament coordinator Sanjeev Mishra said that the criticism of Dashrath Stadium during the match between Paro AFC and Church Boys in the preliminary round of the AFC Challenge League will not be repeated. Mishra says that the match commissioner will come on the 27th and before that the ground and other necessary aspects will be well prepared. He said that he is ready to give the best field and environment this time.
Mishra said that Rekha Paudel and Savitra Bhandari, who are playing in the foreign league, will also play in the SAFF Championship. He says that he is also talking to the players about this. He believes that it will be released three days before the
competition. ANFA mentioned that the teams participating in this championship are trained at ANFA headquarters, Bhadrakali and Lagankhel sports grounds of Nepal Army and St. Xavier's sports grounds. The estimated budget of this championship is 46 million 800 rupees.
