Three junior national records were set on Thursday in the athletics of the 14th central level President's Running Shield at Dasharath Stadium. Ashish Mahar of Sudurpaschim Province won the gold in the student triple jump by breaking the junior national record of 36 years ago by jumping 14.19 meters.
He broke the record of 14.06 meters set by Dhanveer Chaudhary in 2044. Dhanveer, who was present at the competition venue, gave cash to Ashish as an incentive. Vishal Gurung of Wagmati state was second and Vijay Tharu of Lumbini state was third. Lumbini's Anisha Tharu won the gold in Chhatra with a jump of 10.57m. Renuka Ayer from Sudurpaschim came second and Asheka Mahato from Wagmati came third.
Devaki Kumari Dhami of Far West won gold with a junior national record in the 3,000 meter race in a competition organized by the National Sports Council (Rakhep). Devaki completed the race in 10 minutes 52.82 seconds and broke the record of 10 minutes 57.2 seconds set by Rammaya Budha in 2075. Gunja Yadav of Lumbini came second and Kalpana Budha of Karnali became third. On the students' side, Ajay Vick from Karnali region won the gold with a time of 9 minutes and 24.2 seconds. Vishwaram Kunwar of Wagmati won silver and Akkal Baduwal of Karnali won bronze.
The Karnali Pradesh team comprising Bhavna Farsal, Sarita Khadka, Himali Shahi and Krishna Rana won a record gold in the girls' 4x400m relay. The team covered the prescribed distance in 4 minutes 17.2 seconds. Earlier, the record was 4 minutes 23.8 seconds in the name of Aruna Rizal, Purnima Khadka, Pooja Chaudhary and Karuna Rizal from Lumbini. This year, Lumbini stood second and Sudurpaschim third. Among the students of the same competition, Sudurpaschim stood first, Madhesh Province second and Bagmati Province third.
A total of 5 junior national records were set in the three-day athletics competition. On the first day, Gandaki's Ganesh Bik won the junior national record gold by jumping 1.81 meters in the student high jump. On the second day, Sarita Khadka of Karnali completed the 800 meters race in 2 minutes 28.5 seconds and set a record.
On Thursday, Balkumar Nakal of Karnali became the winner in the shot put students. He threw the shot put 12.95 meters. Ganesh Bik from Sudurpaschim was second and Suraj Thapa from Lumbini was third. Krishna Balme from Sudurpaschim won the gold in the girls category with 10.57 meters. Pooja Saud of Sudurpaschim came second and Alina Vick of Wagmati came third.
Adesh Kumar Yadav from Madhesh became the first in the student 200 meter race. He took 22.8 seconds. Chandra Bohra of Sudurpaschim was second and Sant Bahadur Darai of Bagmati was third. Aarti Chowdhury of Koshi region won the gold in the women's competition by completing the prescribed distance in 28.2 seconds. Ritu Joshi of Sudurpaschim won silver and Angel Adhikari of Gandaki won bronze.
