UML MP Dr. Arjun Karki has accused the government of mocking democratic values and the rule of law.
In the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Tuesday, MP Karki said that a legal crisis has arisen in the country due to the different interpretations of the law and the constitution while in the government and opposition.
MP Karki said that the government has been practicing a policy of prohibition against those who raise questions. He mentioned that the freedom of speech and publication guaranteed by the United Nations Convention on Human Rights, to which Nepal is a party, and the constitution are being violated. He argued that beatings and violence against citizens in broad daylight are not acceptable in a democratic country.
MP Karki also drew the attention of the House to the problems of teachers in Sankhuwasabha district. Stating that teachers working in remote areas are being discriminated against in the facilities they should receive on the basis of equal geography and equal service, he demanded the immediate removal of the discriminatory rules.
He said, "Those who came to power and the House by raising questions are today trying to silence those who raise questions." It is a matter of serious concern that this campaign of prohibition has reached from the slums to the media houses to the houses of the opposition party leaders.'
Similarly, expressing concern over the condition of the 'Bidushi Yogmaya Himalayan Ayurveda University' in Sankhuwasabha, Karki said that the government has made the university leaderless by removing the office bearers through an ordinance. He informed that due to the lack of office bearers, the education of postgraduate students has come to a standstill and the employees are in confusion. MP Karki has also demanded that the government immediately appoint office bearers in the university and start teaching.
