The House of Representatives meeting held on Thursday passed the Prevention of Money Laundering (Third Amendment) Bill, 2083. The bill was passed by a majority after a clause-wise discussion on the bill and a response from Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle.

Responding to questions raised during the discussion on the bill, Minister Wagle said that there is a need for a meaningful debate on how to prevent corruption and economic crimes. He stressed that 13 bodies can prosecute money laundering cases and stressed the need to stop economic criminal activities through extensive discussion.

'There is an allegation that the bill was brought with the intention of hurting someone due to bias. This allegation is false. If we misuse an issue like money laundering to fulfill political ends, we cannot get out of the grey list,' he said. 'We should get out of the grey list as it will break financial relations with the foreign sector.'

MPs Guruprasad Baral, Ganesh Bahadur Bishwakarma, Kamal Subedi, Chandeshwor Mandal, Eshudakumari Baral, Bharat Bahadur Khadka, Parbati BK, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, Harimohan Bhandari and Balawati Sharma participated in the discussion.
