The issue of the indefinite suspension of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) by the International Football Federation (FIFA) has been raised in Parliament. Ruling Rashtrapati Bhavan MP Shraddha Kunwar has demanded that necessary investigation be conducted against those responsible for the ANFA suspension and action be taken.
In the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday, MP Kunwar said that Nepal's head has bowed down when Nepali football was suspended while the World Cup was underway. 'The world community football festival is enjoying the excitement of the FIFA World Cup. We are also supporting our favorite country by wearing the jersey of our favorite country, but ironically, when we think about the state of our country's football at this time, we are forced to bow our heads not with pride but with concern,' Kunwar said. 'The parties responsible for this act should be investigated immediately and the necessary legal action should be taken forward.'
MP Kunwar said that the ANFA suspension has tarnished the reputation of Nepal's players and the nation. She said that Nepal lacks good governance, transparency and competent management in sports administration, not talent. 'Despite limited resources and means, Nepali players like Sabitra Bhandari and Priti Rai have made Nepal proud on the international stage. But unfortunately, the respect earned by the players through their abilities is repeatedly being threatened due to institutional weaknesses,' Kunwar said.
Kunwar also said that there is a long-standing weakness behind the ANFA suspension. 'On the one hand, the attraction and enthusiasm for football among the new generation of youth is decreasing due to the inability to conduct domestic competitions for a long time,' she said. 'International bodies do not suspend any organization or association on the basis of a single day or a single incident. There are certain criteria, indicators and processes for this. This result has come about because those criteria have not been implemented properly.' MP Kunwar demanded that legal action be taken against those responsible for bringing about this situation.
MP Kunwar said, 'The government should take serious steps to remove the dark clouds hanging over Nepal's sports sector and create an environment where people can once again dream of hope, trust, and a bright future.
