RPP Chief Whip Khushbu Oli has accused the government of introducing a tax policy that increases the influence of vested interests.
Participating in the discussion on the Finance Bill, 2083 BS presented by Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle on Friday, Chief Whip Oli objected, saying that the government has violated its limits by giving itself unlimited powers regarding taxes.
‘New fees and taxes have been added to the bill. Education service fee, education parity fee, health parity fee, health infrastructure investment fee. Education fees may be right. But what is the guarantee that the quality of government schools will actually improve through education parity fees? Similarly, where is the legal provision that the rural health system will be strengthened through health parity fees? So what is clearly seen is that a mechanism has been created to collect taxes. But the results are not guaranteed. The real question is why are public schools weak? Why have government hospitals not been effective? Questions like this. The solution to this may not lie in fees alone. Our problem is structural. The bill has given the government wide latitude to reduce and increase taxes. What are the limits of its authority? How is transparency ensured? Where is the control of parliament? This seems to increase the influence of vested interests,' she said.
