The secretariat meeting of the National Independent Party has decided to increase the number of central committee members and include a provision for senior leaders in the statute.

The meeting held at the central office on Thursday under the chairmanship of President Ravi Lamichhane decided to increase the number of central members to 158 (7 provincial committee presidents are ex-officio central members). The meeting also decided to include a provision for senior leaders in the statute.

The statute amendment report prepared by the statute amendment committee, coordinated by Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya, did not mention the post of senior leader, and it was left blank so that the party would decide on the post. As per the decision of the secretariat, the statute amendment committee will now establish the post of senior leader. Prime Minister Rashtriya Swatantra Party Balendra Shah is a senior leader, but there was no provision for such a post in the statute. The post of senior leader is going to be established by amending the statute from the first general convention.

The Rashtriya Swatantra Party secretariat has also decided to increase the number of office bearers. According to a secretariat member, the office bearers will now include the president 1, senior leader 1, vice president 3 (1 woman), general secretary 2, joint general secretary 5 (1 woman), spokesperson 1, joint spokesperson 3 (1 woman), treasurer 1, joint treasurer 2 (1 woman). The Statute Amendment Committee proposed to have only 16 office bearers and decided to increase the secretariat and make it gender-inclusive.

A discussion was held in the RSVP secretariat meeting on whether to nominate some people as vice presidents and joint general secretaries. A RSVP secretariat member informed that discussions were held on nominating 1 vice president and 2 joint general secretaries, but a final decision has not been made.

It has also been decided to increase the number of members of the secretariat to be formed after the general convention. Now, a 33-member secretariat will be formed. In which the president, vice president, general secretary, joint general secretary, spokesperson and treasurer will automatically become members of the secretariat.

The number of members to be nominated by the chairman in the central committee has been increased to 51. A secretariat member said, 'This decision has been made to address the issues of pre-election consensus, integration of various parties, and the integration of independents into the party,' the member said.
