The government should and should run according to the constitution, not the RSPB statute: Gagan Thapa

”The message now is that voters are angry with us, not voting in large numbers, but expressing anger. We should not worry about the election results, we should think and move forward.”

Congress President Gagan Thapa has said that the people have given him a mandate to remain in the opposition for the elections until 2087. In a meeting with party workers in Gorkha on Tuesday, he said that he will struggle as needed to see whether the government is functioning or not for the next five years as per the constitution and help the government in its proper work.

In the meeting with the workers, he said, ‘The elections were held in 2082, the next election will be in 2087, until then the mandate given to us by the people is that of the opposition. What happens or doesn’t happen within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is their business, not ours. However, the government is run not by their party’s statute, but by the country’s constitution.’

He said that the role of the government or the opposition is responsible in a democracy. Looking at the politics since 2046, just as the government has not played its role properly, those in the opposition have never played their role properly. ‘I am in the opposition but I have power in my mind,’ he said, ‘It seems that I am sitting with my feet up, wondering if there will be problems within the ruling party.’

He said that every election will not only give results but also a message. ‘The message now is that voters are angry with us, they are not voting in large numbers but expressing their anger,’ he said, ‘We should not worry about the election results, we should think and move forward.’ He accused the politics of the past decade of being limited to whether or not to become the Prime Minister.’

He also said that his party would cooperate in the investigation of the assets of those holding constitutional responsibilities. "We will provide details within the limits set by the commission. We want the commission to look into everything, including what the current sources are and what the lifestyle is like," he said. "However, the current Prime Minister and ministers have shown their wealth, and they are young friends. We are also looking into whether they have the courage to show legitimate sources when asked where such wealth comes from at this age."
