Prime Minister Balendra Shah has demanded a response from the main opposition Congress and the NCP on the issue of Nepal encroaching on India's border. The Congress and the NCP have demanded information from the Parliament itself about where Nepal has encroached on India's land.
Congress Chief Whip Basana Thapa has demanded clarification on Prime Minister Shah's statement. NCP MP Ramesh Malla said that the Prime Minister's statement from the rostrum of the Parliament was objectionable.
Thapa said, 'There is a Nepal-India border dispute. But the Prime Minister said that Nepal also encroached on India's land. Where was it encroached on? It had to be informed as soon as possible. What is this issue? This is a serious and objectionable issue. If the Prime Minister's statement about the border of the two countries without facts is not correct, I would like to demand that it be removed from the record.'
NCP MP Ramesh Malla said that the Prime Minister spoke against the fundamental principles of the country's sovereign power and national integrity.
'The remarks made by the Honorable Prime Minister, a responsible person, from the rostrum of the House, which are such a derogatory statement about the country's national integrity, are not a normal matter,' Malla said. 'I think he understood the subject matter he raised in an informal conversation. This matter is very serious. Can the heads of government and heads of state of a country sit on a stage and say that we have encroached on the land of such and such a country? How serious is this matter?'
Malla also demanded that the Prime Minister's statement be corrected by the Parliament and removed from the Parliament's record.
Prime Minister Shah, while answering a question from Shram Sanskriti Party MP Aren Rai in the House of Representatives, said that efforts are being made to resolve the Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura disputes diplomatically. But in the process, he said, 'You may find one thing surprising. I also came to know after becoming Prime Minister recently that not only India has encroached on Nepal's land, Nepal has also encroached on a lot of India's land.'
