While answering questions from lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Sunday, Prime Minister Shah had said, 'You may find one thing surprising. I also came to know after becoming Prime Minister recently that India has not only encroached on Nepal's land, but Nepal has also encroached on India's land in many places.' The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified Prime Minister Shah's statement, saying, 'The issue raised by the Honorable Prime Minister in Parliament is basically related to the encroachment of the Dasgaja area and 'cross-border occupation', i.e. 'right to occupy land across the border'. While demarcating the Nepal-India border, the fixed boundary principle has been adopted in the river border area, resulting in 'cross-border occupation' where citizens of one country are farming and settling on land falling within the territory of another country.' The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also clarified that the study of the technical committee has shown that in some places the land currently under the use and enjoyment of Nepal may fall towards India and the land currently under the use and enjoyment of India may fall towards Nepal. 'The reference to the statement made by the Honorable Prime Minister in the Parliament 'in some places Indian land may be on the side of Nepal' is linked to this technical reality and 'cross-border occupation',' the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said.' Prime Minister Shah said: Not only India, Nepal has also encroached on Indian land in many places.
