MP Mahabir Pun has welcomed the government's decision to form the 'Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation' and suggested adding the word 'research' to the name of the ministry. Expressing happiness over the government's latest decision, Pun stressed that adequate budget should be ensured for research and development in policies and programs. Pun said that the proposed ministry should be named 'Ministry of Science, Technology, Research and Innovation', adding that technology and development without research would be incomplete. Stating that even if the ministry is formed, effective work cannot be done without adequate budget, he reiterated his stance that at least 1 percent of the total capital expenditure should be allocated for research and development. He argued that even if 1 percent of GDP investment is not immediately possible in the context of Nepal, it can start with 1 percent of capital expenditure. Pun also drew the government's attention to solving the problem of vacancies in secondary education.
Pun has warned that not paying attention to such important issues could send a negative message to the international media, given the Prime Minister's high international reputation and image.
