Congress leader Shyam Ghimire has urged the leadership to maintain respectful unity by including all parties within the party.
Addressing a special gathering at the Bagmati province level on Wednesday, leader Ghimire warned that the party would suffer more serious losses in the upcoming elections if the establishment party tries to move forward unilaterally.
He said, ‘It is the responsibility of the establishment party to include all the party’s friends, but that generosity is not seen in their activities. If efforts are not made to include everyone, the upcoming local and provincial elections may end in a worse situation than the results of last Falgun 21. What is the meaning of such a failed leadership after losing three consecutive elections? The leadership needs to think seriously about this issue.’
Leader Ghimire clarified that their aim is not to divide the party but to unite the entire Congress. Leader Ghimire accused the leadership of adopting a ‘pick and choose’ policy and nominating only those who are in their favor to the central committee. He argues that the recent appointment of 19 people does not show any sign of including everyone in the party.
Presenting a proposal for party unity, he stressed the need to adopt the model of unity that Girija Prasad Koirala had in the past between the Nepali Congress and the Nepali Congress (Democratic). He also suggested converting the current central committee into a 'General Convention Preparation Committee' to ensure respectable representation of all parties.
