Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa, General Secretary Pradeep Poudel, and Joint General Secretaries Uday Shamsher Rana and Yogendra Chaudhary also participated in the first meeting of the 17-member committee formed under the coordination of party Vice President Pushpa Bhusal.

The committee formed by the Nepali Congress to make suggestions for constitutional amendment has started its work from Tuesday. 

The first meeting of the 17-member committee formed under the coordination of party Vice President Pushpa Bhusal was attended by party President Gagan Kumar Thapa, General Secretary Pradeep Poudel, and Joint General Secretaries Udaya Shamsher Rana and Yogendra Chaudhary. 

In the meeting, party President Thapa informed about the need for constitutional amendment and the responsibilities of the committee. President Thapa said that it has been more than 10 years since the constitution was made and that some provisions needed to be amended during the exercise. He suggested holding discussions on constitutional amendment by focusing on democracy, civil rights, nationality and progress. 

The committee initially planned to prepare a proposed draft for amendment after conducting a detailed study of the constitution and holding extensive discussions with stakeholders, experts and the general public, informed the committee's member secretary Raju Katuwal. 

The Congress has also started its homework while the government has formed a separate committee to do homework for the constitution amendment and is requesting representation from the Congress in the committee. Member Secretary Katuwal said that there has been no decision on sending a representative from the party to the committee formed by the government. According to him, the government has requested to send the names of the representatives by Friday, and the next meeting of this committee has been scheduled for next Thursday. 

The members of the committee formed by the Congress include senior advocates and constitutional experts Radheshyam Adhikari, Harihar Dahal, Prem Bahadur Khadka, Upendra Keshari Neupane, Sher Bahadur KC, Yadunath Khanal, Gopal Krishna Ghimire, Yogendra Bahadur Adhikari, Dinesh Tripathi, Sitaram KC, Lalit Bahadur Basnet, advocates Ran Bahadur Thebe, Sharmila Shrestha, Jhalmaya BK and Niraj Gupta.
