A courtesy call was held between Speaker of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia Milton Dick.

The meeting took place between Speaker Dahal, who is participating in the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkey. The meeting focused on bilateral relations, mutual interests and parliamentary cooperation between Nepal and Australia, according to the Secretariat of the Speaker of the National Assembly. 

Recalling the meeting held in Geneva, Speaker Dahal emphasized the need to create more programs for cooperation, assistance and exchange of experiences between the parliaments of the two countries. Stating that Australia has been contributing to the development and prosperity of Nepal, Speaker Dahal urged for more cooperation and collaboration in the coming days.

He said that operating direct air services between Nepal and Australia would further help in expanding the relations between the two countries.

Citing the large presence of the Nepali community in Australia, Chairman Dahal urged for positive initiatives on behalf of Parliament for the education, employment and security of the Nepali community.

Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick said that the relations between Australia and Nepal have been very cordial since the past and said that parliamentary cooperation would further deepen and strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Stating that after returning from his visit to Nepal, Speaker Milton said that he would increase it in the coming days. 

Stating that there is no IPU leadership from the Asia Pacific region so far and that he will be running for the presidency of the IPU in the upcoming 153rd General Assembly, Speaker Milton said that he is confident of Nepal's full support in the election. 

He said that he is always ready for activities such as the formation of parliamentary friendship groups, mutual visits, and exchange of parliamentary practices. Speaker Milton said that he is positive on issues such as direct air service flights, increase in educational scholarships, etc.

Regarding the candidacy for the IPU chair, Chairman Dahal mentioned that the Speaker of the House of Representatives will participate in the upcoming IPU on behalf of Nepal and that he will make the necessary coordination.

The Nepali parliamentary delegation was represented by National Assembly members Krishna Bahadur Rokaya and Anjan Shakya, National Assembly Secretary Tul Bahadur Kandel, and Branch Officer Sapana Sapkota.

Meeting with parliamentary delegations of China and Bhutan

Meanwhile, a courtesy call was also held at the IPU sideline meeting with a parliamentary delegation led by a member of the Chinese National People's Congress and the Vice Chairman of the Education, Science, Culture, and Public Health Committee, and a team led by the Speaker of the Bhutanese Parliament's Council of Representatives.
