The issue of a general convention has entered the Nepali Communist Party (NCP). After Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal submitted a written proposal to hold a general convention within six months in the Central Coordination Committee meeting, formal discussions on the matter have begun.

Leaders are expressing their views on the general convention, review of election results, and upcoming programs in the meeting that began on Monday. In the meeting that is ongoing at the central office, Parisdanda, leaders have said that the organization should be given momentum by holding a general convention soon.

‘The proposal to hold a general convention is being discussed,’ said leader Agni Sapkota, ‘The process of expressing views on giving momentum to the party and making the organization agile is ongoing.’

Leaders have cited public anger, weak issues, and the inability of the organization to be active as reasons for the party’s heavy defeat in the Falgun 21 election.

Dahal formally proposed the general convention in his capacity as coordinator after the unification of the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialists in October.

He had proposed the general convention in writing to the Central Coordination Committee last Thursday. 'The party's unity national general convention will be held within the next six months,' the proposal he put forward states.

The review report states that the NCP should immediately move forward with a concrete action plan for organizational, ideological, economic and technical work to strengthen the party. 'The party's reorganization and transformation campaign has to be carried out extensively,' he said in a proposal to complete the organization's adjustment and construction. 'It is necessary to reorganize and transform the party organization and the party-affiliated mass organizations in a new way.' For that, all the organizations up to the municipal level will be integrated within a month and new organizations will be formed in places where there are none, and organizations will be formed in all wards within three months.'

He stated that party membership will be renewed within three months and ward, municipal, district and provincial conventions will be held within five months. 'It is necessary to restructure and transform not only the party organization, but also the leadership. For that, a concrete action plan should be made and a move forward should be made,' the proposal states.
