The meeting called by the then acting president of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, on Tuesday has turned into an informal gathering after the disagreement of the leaders of the Shekhar Koirala faction. Khadka had called the then office bearers and members elected from the 14th general convention to Hotel Smart in Dhumbarahi as a meeting of the central working committee. Preparations were made to hold the meeting formally by placing the party flag and banner at the meeting venue. However, the participating leaders said that the format of the program was changed after the Shekhar faction leaders objected to it.

According to a central member who participated in the meeting, a dispute arose over the attempt to give it the form of a formal central committee meeting. 'We did not agree to place the banner because calling it a central committee meeting under a banner and flag would send the message that parallel activities were being carried out, so we did not allow that,' the member said. 'After that, the meeting was turned into an informal gathering.'

The establishment side has been dissatisfied with the Khadka faction's accusations of parallel activities in recent times. Regarding this issue, the establishment party has called a meeting of the Central Disciplinary Committee for tomorrow in preparation to ask for clarification from those involved in parallel activities.

Leaders from the Shekhar faction, however, say that informal meetings and group discussions are not a new issue within the Congress. Another leader from the Shekhar faction said, 'Such informal meetings have been held before between different groups of opinion. Sometimes one has done it, sometimes another. Informal gatherings and group discussions have been happening in the Congress for a long time, it should not be taken otherwise.'

Participants have said that no formal decision was taken in the meeting. It is said that the meeting will continue tomorrow as well.
