Janmat Party President CK Raut has announced his retirement from parliamentary politics.
'I had thought that I would retire from parliamentary politics whether I win or lose in this year's elections. This does not mean that I will abandon the party. Even if the party prepares for the upcoming elections, I will not contest the parliamentary elections,' he said in an interview with Prime TV's program 'Janta Jana Chanyan'.
He also says that he is not of much use in Parliament. He revealed that he will not participate in parliamentary politics anymore and will not contest in any elections.
He says that he has no desire to be a candidate in the 2079 elections either. 'My friends were sitting in Bhaktapur and making a proportional list. I had told them not to make me a candidate in either proportional or direct elections,' he said. 'They convinced me that if you don't contest the election, your morale will drop, and what will you do if you don't win a single seat?'
He insists that he is not sad about the current results. 'I was thinking of not contesting the election this time either. I knew to a large extent that I would be defeated,' he said. 'If I hadn't contested the election, the blame for the defeat of all the Madhesh parties would have fallen on me. But I feel that I did the right thing by contesting.'
