The Election Commission has distributed seats under the proportional electoral system for the election of members of the House of Representatives.
The commission finalized the seat distribution among the parties as the counting of votes under the proportional system concluded on Thursday under the election held on 21 Falgun. Accordingly, the National Independent Party (57), Nepali Congress (20), CPN-UML (16), Nepali Communist Party (9), Shram Sanskriti Party (4) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (4) have received 4 seats.
Out of 12.18 million 617 votes cast under the proportional electoral system, 18.35 million 25 votes were valid, according to a statement issued by the Commission's Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai on Thursday.
The commission stated that in accordance with Section 60 (2) of the Election Act, 2074, the seats to be received by the six parties that crossed the threshold (3 percent) prescribed under the prevailing election law will be determined based on the total number of valid votes received by the parties concerned.
The commission said it had written to the parties on Thursday to select the names of candidates and submit them to the commission within 3 days.
