CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has admitted that the election results did not come as expected and said that he would respect the people's decision.
'I could not get the results I expected in this election,' he wrote on Facebook after the full election results were announced, 'Our party also could not bring the expected results. In a democracy, the final decision belongs to the people, and it is my and my party's duty to uphold that decision. I accept the people's vote with full respect.'
Oli has expressed his gratitude to the voters, leaders, activists, volunteers and supporters who voted with the sun symbol and supported us.
'I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the voters, leaders, activists, volunteers, well-wishers and supporters who stood by us by voting with the sun symbol even in this difficult time. Your trust is our strength, your support is our strength,' he said.
He has made it clear that even if the election results are not in our favor, our commitment to the people and service spirit will not weaken.
‘The election results were not in our favor, but our commitment and service to the people have not weakened at all,’ Oli said. ‘We will remain among the people, continue to work for the people, and move forward by further strengthening this relationship of trust.’
