Nepal Communist Party (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang has been elected from Ilam-2 in the House of Representatives election.
According to the final results released by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, UML candidate Nembang defeated Nepali Congress candidate Bheshraj Acharya by a wide margin of 7,776 votes. Chief Electoral Officer Roshan Gajurel informed that Nembang was elected with 22,426 votes. His nearest rival Acharya of the Nepali Congress received 14,650 votes.
Similarly, Sudip Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party received 14,400 votes, Gokul Bahadur Rai of the National Independent Party received 7,814 votes, and Om Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Communist Party received 1,172 votes.
This is Nembang's second victory in the House of Representatives election. Earlier, in the by-election held on 2081 BS, Nembang had defeated Congress candidate Dambar Bahadur Khadka from the same constituency by a margin of 5,820 votes. Nembang had won 27,772 votes while Khadka had won 21,942 votes.
This is Acharya's second defeat. Earlier, in the 2070 BS Constituent Assembly election, Acharya had lost to Suhang's father Subash Chandra Nembang by 2,102 votes.
In the election held on 21 Falgun, 67,664 votes out of a total of 119,489 voters were cast in this constituency. 3,883 votes were invalid here. A total of 14 candidates, including 13 different political parties and one independent, were in the election race.
