Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, who contested from Sarlahi-4, has been defeated in the House of Representatives election. He was defeated by Amresh Singh, who was the candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP).
Singh got 35,688 votes while Thapa could get only 22,831 votes. Thapa, who won the election from Kathmandu-4, was visiting Madhesh for the first time.
Singh, who had previously won the election from the same constituency as an independent, defeated Thapa by 12,857 votes .
In third place, UML candidate Amanish Kumar Yadav got 9,343 votes.
