Congress Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma has said that the election results were unfavorable for the Congress, but they were not unexpected. He also said that a meeting of the Central Working Committee will be called to review the election results in depth.
Sharma, in a video message on Friday, addressed the party workers and well-wishers, saying that the party will move forward with new energy by recognizing the past weaknesses and uniting. ‘The election results were unfavorable. But they were not unexpected. A meeting of the Central Working Committee will be called soon to review them in depth,’ he said, ‘In the 2079 local level elections, voters from Dharan, Kathmandu and Dhangadhi gave a message to change the party. But the party could not address it at the expected speed. Instead, a new party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), was established by seizing that opportunity to convert the anger of the voters into votes. The seats that the RSSS won in a short time. That was another message.’
After the election, the party had to choose between leading the government or staying in the opposition for the entire time, but instead came to power and there were shortcomings in the government’s operation. ‘The government’s work and progress remained weak. There were many disappointments and questions in the overall situation. It led to rebellion,’ he said.
Sharma admitted that even after the Gen-G rebellion, changes could not be made at the expected pace and that even though changes were made in policy and leadership through the special general convention, they could not be conveyed to the citizens.
‘The special general convention changed policy and leadership. However, elections were held 50 days after the special general convention was concluded. Through that, we started the changes, wrote the issues, questions, and complaints of the society in documents, but we could not properly take them to the citizenry, and we could not even overcome populism,’ he said.
After the Gen-G rebellion,
Stating that the expectation of change in all areas after the Gen-G rebellion could not be fulfilled by a single party through a decision, Sharma said, ‘The expectation that there should be change in all areas after the Gen-G rebellion could not be achieved through a single decision. Everyone had to do it. But the Congress did it. However, it could not be taken to the civilian ranks. That did not bring the election results in our favor.'
Vice President Sharma said that the election results will be analyzed by deeply identifying the external and internal reasons, analyzing the weaknesses and moving forward with a new life. 'The Congress has seen defeat and victory many times. We will shorten this moment of defeat. After reviewing it in depth, the entire party ranks will unite and search for new possibilities,' he said. 'For that, the current and outgoing leadership will have to stand together and think.' He has called on everyone in the party to maintain restraint, unity and energy, while absorbing the results of democratic practice.
