The legacy of the Congress has collapsed after 34 years in Constituency No. 1 of East Nawalparasi. Here, Rajan Gautam, a candidate for the House of Representatives from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has won by a wide margin.
He has received 50,945 votes, while his nearest competitor, Balkrishna Ghimire of the Nepali Congress, has received 16,293 votes.

Gautam, who was a professor before entering active politics, had also received 24,500 votes in the 2079 election. In his second attempt, Gautam won with a margin of 34,652 votes.
