Among the former Prime Ministers, NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has won in Rukum East. Dahal won with 10,240 votes. Dahal has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the fifth consecutive time.

Dahal's closest competitor, UML's Leelamani Gautam, got 3,462 votes. Similarly, Congress candidate Kusum Thapa got 3,081 votes, while Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) candidate Lakhan Kumar Thapa got 819 votes. Similarly, Pralopa's Sandeep Pun got 203 votes.

He was elected from Kathmandu 10 and Rolpa 2 in the first Constituent Assembly election. In the second Constituent Assembly election, 2070, he was elected from Siraha Constituency No. 5 and defeated from Kathmandu 10. In the House of Representatives election held on Mangsir 21, 2074, he was elected from Chitwan Constituency No. 3.

He was elected from Gorkha 2 in the House of Representatives election held on Mangsir 4, 2079. He went to Gorkha 2 and won at the request of former Maoist Vice-Chairman Baburam Bhattarai. But after his victory, the bitterness between the two leaders increased.

He reached East Rukum for the elections on 21 Falgun 2082 after the parliament was dissolved due to the Gen-G movement.
