Congress will not waste five years of time: President Thapa

What you should know

Congress President Gagan Thapa has said that the next five years will not be wasted. He said that the Congress will take the lead in development and change for the next five years by taking care of all political parties and factions.

‘Congress will not waste five years now. Congress will be proud of yesterday. But, it will not be stuck in yesterday. It will solve today’s problems and lead tomorrow’s bright days,’ he said while addressing a pledge meeting in Janakpur. ‘The power of Congress is not hatred. It is love. The power of Congress is not prohibition, it is the power to make everyone participate. Therefore, this party will lead this country by taking care of it, including everyone, not letting Singha Dabar burn, not shooting anyone.’

Thapa said that this time, instead of just making announcements like before, the Congress has brought only the things that can be done.

‘Whatever I say, I will follow the letter written in this pledge. Not only me, but also a member of the party will follow it for the next five years. No matter what the difficult situation, whether it is the government, the opposition, the palace, or the streets, we will work towards fulfilling these ten points of change,' Thapa said.

He said that he is determined to make every Nepali full of food, introduce their products to the world, not have to be afraid while doing medicine, take pride in Nepal's originality, and thrive in modernity.

'We will make this country a country that the world knows as a sovereign country. We will make Nepal a country that will lead to prosperity and free every citizen from harassment. It will take ten years to do five years of work. It may not be completed in five years. However, every step of the Congress will be taken to find the goal of this promise,' he said.

Before speaking, Thapa had made public a brief statement under 'Vision Ten'. ‘No youth will be killed by the state bullets when they ask questions about the state. No one will be allowed to burn down Singha Durbar from the street. We fully embrace the feelings of the youth. Gen-G did not come from anywhere. It came from our home. Three people asked questions. We have come with answers to all of them,’ Thapa said, ‘From now on, we will not have to stand in line for Malkhand. We will not have to pay bribes when going to get a license. We will not have to spend hours carrying files in our hands to the Kathmandu court. How to do it, why it did not work. We have come after researching everything. A lot of work was done yesterday. We have come with a resolution and plan to improve some of the work. We have written one thing each on 27 issues. We did not write this for the sake of writing,’ he said, ‘That is why we have said in the affidavit that we will not make an announcement this time, but promise.’

He said that the pledge was brought after studying for a long time how to bring results in all sectors including education, health, agriculture, youth, women, Dalits, Madhesis, etc. in 27 subjects. 'You are a thief, I am good, I am not saying that I will fix it in an instant like waving a magic wand. There is a problem, where is the root of the problem? If you go and fix it, the result will be good. We need development and progress, this pledge has been made by studying all of it, identifying the problem and finding out what can be done,' Thapa said, 'Every language, religion, culture needs its own place. Not by taking it away, but by expanding it further, preserving traditional beliefs, taking everyone, castes, minorities together, and protecting their rights, we will reach a place of development.'

Saying that leadership is needed to take the country between two big neighboring countries, Thapa said that the Congress will work in the spirit of Team Nepal. 'Nepal defeated Scotland in cricket.' There were players on the field. The team that played was Nepal. This is how a team is formed. There is no illusion, a single party cannot build a country. A country is not formed by playing tricks,' he said, 'Congress will unite all the provinces and local levels. It will take the responsibility of changing the country by taking the leadership of all the political parties. It will connect the citizens inside and outside the country. By connecting everyone, Team Nepal will fight for five years. The team will fight, defeat Nepal's misrule. It will defeat Nepal's poverty. It will defeat Nepal's unemployment.'
