A special voter education program is to be conducted with the aim of making the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21 more grand and organized.
In order to make the voting process easy and simple and to reduce the percentage of invalid votes, the Commission is going to conduct the program nationwide from Falgun 3 to 17.
The voter education program will be conducted by mobilizing one voter education volunteer in each of the 6,743 wards of all 753 local levels across the country.
The program has been decided for the volunteers to reach the homes and settlements of voters and inform them about the importance of the election and the voting process through sample ballot papers, informed the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. The Commission had been appointing one contact person at each local level since the past.
The same contact person was appointed as the coordinator of the voter education program. The Commission believes that voter education will play an important role in increasing voter participation in elections and reducing the proportion of invalid votes.
The Commission has requested all the seven provincial governments, all 753 local levels, political parties contesting the elections, candidates, and all stakeholders including the media for the voter education program.
The voter education program is being carried out with the aim of informing the general public about the importance of voting rights and the voting process.
