Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his party is committed to amending the constitution for political stability in accordance with the spirit and sentiments of the younger generation.
Releasing a 'brief commitment letter' on behalf of the party focusing on the upcoming House of Representatives elections, he said that issues including the form of governance, electoral system and others would be reviewed and amended.
'It has been 10 years since the constitution was promulgated. The constitution also states that it will be reviewed and amended in 10 years. We have raised that issue with importance in the commitment letter,' said Coordinator Dahal, 'Similarly, good governance, corruption control and transparency have been given high priority.'
He said that they will also move forward with a clear plan to end social discrimination and inequality. 'High priority has also been given to the issues of self-reliant and independent economy, environmental protection, disaster management, building the foundation of socialism with Nepali characteristics, strengthening national interests and foreign relations in the commitment,' said Coordinator Dahal.
The commitment letter aims to achieve an annual economic growth of more than 10 percent within the next five years. The commitment letter includes plans to limit the multidimensional poverty rate to 10 percent, create 150,000 jobs annually, ensure 500,000 regular jobs, and turn 100,000 returnees into entrepreneurs.
Similarly, programs such as becoming self-reliant in agricultural products including rice, milk, meat, and vegetables, declaring the coming decade as an agricultural investment decade, and distributing farmer identity cards to all farmers within a year have also been included.
