The weather is expected to be normal across the country on 21 Falgun, the day of the House of Representatives elections. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast the upcoming Falgun by analyzing the weather in Falgun over the past 30 years.

The department has provided the Commission with data on daily maximum and minimum temperatures and average daily rainfall for 10-30 Falgun. The data indicates that the weather will be normal during the election, said Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, spokesperson of the Commission.

The technology available at the Meteorological Department can provide weather forecasts for 5 to 7 days. The department is not technically capable of forecasting daily weather a month in advance. However, the department has provided the Commission with weather forecast information based on various global forecast formats and data measured over the past 30 years. According to the department, weather has been studied in some places since 1941.

Ashok Bakhrel, a meteorologist at the department, said that comparing the weather averages of previous years, the weather in the Himalayan districts around the polling day will be normal. ‘But this cannot be said in a long-term forecast,’ he said. According to Bakhrel, it is currently the time of snowfall in the Himalayan districts, but it has not been that much. He says, ‘There is still a possibility of improvement in a few days.’

The weather has been considered a challenge in the high mountainous regions of Taplejung, Panchthar, Gorkha, Manang, Mustang, Humla, Mugu, Dolpa, Darchula and Bajura during the elections.
